Key Takeaways

  • Trinity (QS 75, THE =171) and UCD (QS =100, THE =212) lead both 2027 rankings.
  • Lowest computer science master’s fees in the table, 2026/27: Maynooth EUR 18,000 (≈ ₹19.11 lakh), UL EUR 20,800 (≈ ₹22.09 lakh) a year, TU Dublin EUR 21,750 (≈ ₹23.09 lakh) in total.
  • Trinity’s Global Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship excludes computer science, engineering, business and natural sciences.
  • State boards: Galway names them and Trinity accepts HSC; UCD lists CBSE and CISCE only.
  • Medicine: UCC is lowest here for entry after Class 12, EUR 54,414 (≈ ₹57.78 lakh) a year for 2027/28; practising in India needs at least 54 months’ study in English.
  • The 2027 GOI-IES call isn’t announced; UCD’s 2027/28 Global Excellence applications open in November.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 rank eight Irish universities and the THE World University Rankings 2027 rank ten. Below the top two, they split: DCU is 408 on QS but =284 on THE, and RCSI appears only on THE. Shortlist on both ranks, then let your course and fee decide.

The list covers Ireland’s seven public universities plus RCSI and TU Dublin, one of five technological universities (a separate group of public universities). For a smaller city, consider the other four technological universities: South East Technological University (SETU), Munster Technological University (MTU), Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and Atlantic Technological University (ATU). Only ATU is in THE 2027, at 1601-1800. The Higher Education Authority adds that a number of other providers, including private colleges, offer programmes validated by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), the State qualifications agency. A QQI award at Level 8 or above counts for Stamp 1G, the post-study work permission. For medicine, judge RCSI by its THE rank, not its absence from QS.

University Fees in Ireland for Indian Students, by Course and Year

Of the computer science master's fees above, Maynooth's MSc in Software Engineering is the lowest at EUR 18,000 (≈ ₹19.11 lakh), on Maynooth's 2026/27 postgraduate fee schedule. UCD's MSc Computer Science (Conversion) is the highest at EUR 30,095 (≈ ₹31.95 lakh) a year for 2027/28, so compare the fee for your exact course.

Rent and living costs come on top of these fees, and Dublin usually costs more than Cork, Galway or Limerick; our cost of studying in Ireland guide covers them.

Parents: plan for the fee to rise. Trinity’s fees for continuing students may rise by a percentage each year, DCU’s postgraduate fees are subject to an annual increase, and RCSI’s non-EU undergraduate medicine fee has risen about 2% yearly.

To practise in India later, the National Medical Commission’s FMGL Regulations 2021 need a course of at least 54 months taught in English and a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. You also need registration in Ireland on par with its citizens, a pass in the screening test or NExT, and a 12-month supervised internship in India. These rules apply if you began studying abroad on or after 18 November 2021. Graduate-entry medicine at UL and RCSI runs four years, or 48 months, short of that 54-month minimum.

Entry Requirements at Irish Universities for Indian Applicants

Two Hyderabad students with the same Class 12 marks can get different answers if one sat CBSE and the other the Telangana state board. Each Irish university sets its own entry rules, as Education in Ireland confirms, and several name the boards they accept. Most also ask Indian applicants for transcripts, a statement of purpose (SOP), letters of recommendation (LORs) and an English test score; our requirements guide explains each.

University (bachelor’s)Indian boards namedClass 12 marks needed
TrinityCBSE, CISCE (ISC), HSC80% to 85% average, six Grade XII subjects
UCD, 2027 entryCBSE and CISCE onlyComputer Science 80%; Medicine 76% plus SAT 1340 and interview
UCCAny recognised school qualification75-79%, 80-89% or 90%+, by course
GalwayState boards, CISCE, CBSE65% to 85%, by programme
ULCBSE, Metro State Boards, CISCE70% combined average, Class 10 and 12

State-board students get the least certainty at UCD: its India rules cover only CBSE and CISCE, and other boards must contact UCD. Galway, which names state boards, is the clearest option. See our guide to studying in Ireland after 12th.

For a master’s, UCC counts 55% in your bachelor’s as a 2H2 (second-class lower honours), 65% as a 2H1 and 75% as a first. It normally expects a first class or first division from Indian applicants, though departments may accept a high second class from top universities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Pune. Galway asks for 55%, 65% or 75%, depending on the course, or 52%, 62% or 70% if your college is in the 2025 NIRF top 100 (India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework). Trinity asks for at least a 2.1 (second-class upper) honours degree or equivalent. With an offer, apply for your visa using our Ireland student visa guide.

Which Irish University Fits Your Course and Budget

Pick your course first, because the top universities in Ireland for Indian students are each known for different subjects. For master’s options, see our masters in Ireland guide.

Trinity College Dublin

Trinity, created by royal charter in 1592, is the highest-ranked Irish university in both QS and THE 2027. Best for: rank-first applicants paying the full fee.

From our counselling desk: most Indian engineering and computer science applicants we counsel for Trinity expect its Global Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship to cut the fee; the subject exclusion is their biggest surprise. Whether you take a Level 8 bachelor's or a Level 9 master's decides how long Stamp 1G lasts. In our 2026 Ireland intake counselling in Hyderabad, families who choose the level first avoid reworking their visa plans in Year 2.

University College Dublin

UCD is often suggested for business and data science. Best for: business students who want Dublin.

University College Cork

For pharmacy and life sciences, UCC is a usual recommendation. Best for: life-science students and fee-conscious medicine applicants.

University of Galway

Galway is commonly suggested for biomedical engineering and biomedical science. Best for: biomedical students and state-board Class 12 applicants.

University of Limerick

UL is commonly known for cooperative education, meaning paid work placements inside the degree. Best for: students who want paid work experience.

Dublin City University

DCU is often suggested for computing and data analytics. Best for: a Dublin computing master’s below Trinity and UCD fees.

Maynooth University

Maynooth’s MSc Data Science and Analytics costs EUR 17,000 a year for 2026/27. Its computer science and business analytics master’s fees are the lowest in the tables above. Best for: budget-first master’s students.

TU Dublin

TU Dublin is usually described as career-focused, with practical courses. Its MSc in Computing in Applied Cyber Security costs EUR 14,500 in total for 2026/27. Best for: career-first master’s on a tight budget.

RCSI

RCSI’s Graduate Entry Medicine costs EUR 63,500 for 2027/28 plus the EUR 135 once-off NUI fee. Graduate entry runs 48 months, under India’s 54-month minimum. Best for: school-leaver medicine applicants.

Scholarships Indian Students Can Get at Each Irish University

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) pays a EUR 10,000 (≈ ₹10.62 lakh) stipend plus a full fee waiver for one year of full-time master’s or PhD-level study, with 60 awards a year. You need a conditional or final offer first. The 2027 call isn’t yet announced, so secure your offer early.

Plan around automatic awards such as UCC’s 20% first, because GOI-IES and UCD’s 100% awards are limited. Offer deadlines differ by intake, so check our Ireland intakes guide early. RCSI’s Graduate Entry Medicine scholarship, by invitation for self-funded non-EU offer-holders, has no published amount. Our scholarships in Ireland guide covers awards beyond the universities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not directly. Stamp 1G gives Level 8 bachelor’s graduates 12 months. Level 9 master’s graduates get 12 months, renewable once for 12 more if they show steps toward graduate-level work, within an eight-year student limit. Stamp 4 follows 21 months on a Critical Skills Employment Permit, or 57 on a General Employment Permit. See our post-study work visa guide.

Not always. Each university sets its own English rules. For 2027 bachelor’s entry, UCD accepts 80% in CBSE or ISC English instead of IELTS or TOEFL. For its MSc in Technologies and Analytics in Precision Medicine, RCSI accepts IELTS at a minimum of 6.5 overall.

On Stamp 2, the student permission, up to 20 hours a week in term and 40 in the holidays: June to September, and 15 December to 15 January. Stamp 2A holders cannot work. See our part-time jobs in Ireland guide.

In 2024/25, India was the most common home country of students from outside Ireland, at 20.6% of 44,535 such enrolments in the Higher Education Authority’s Key Facts and Figures. The US was next at 13.8%, then China at 9.9%.

Rarely, because Indian students pay non-EU fees. Only two awards above cover full tuition: GOI-IES, which waives the fee for one year of master’s or PhD-level study and adds a stipend, and UCD’s limited 100% Global Excellence awards. The rest are partial, such as TU Dublin’s EUR 2,000 (≈ ₹2.12 lakh) a year.

Ardent Overseas has over 10 years of counselling experience and more than 12,000 visas behind it, from offices in Hyderabad and Tirupati. Our Ireland counsellors in Hyderabad check each shortlisted university’s board rule, fee and scholarship against your marks.
