Key Takeaways

  • An MSc Data Science costs GBP 19,450 (approx. INR 24.7 lakh) at Greenwich (2026-27); Glasgow’s MSc Data Science and AI costs GBP 34,815 (approx. INR 44.2 lakh) for 2027-28.
  • UK Computing graduates earned a median GBP 31,788 (approx. INR 40.4 lakh) in 2023/24.

  • Two in three working Graduate route users earned under GBP 30,000 (approx. INR 38.1 lakh), so choose a course that leads to a specific job.
  • The 2022 UK-India degree agreement excludes professional degrees like Engineering, Medicine and Law.

Start from the degree you already hold, then pick from the top courses to study in UK. A UK master’s assumes you’ve covered certain subjects before, and a bachelor’s offer reads your Class 12 stream first. Our guide to studying in the UK covers the wider route.

MSc Data Science and AI, Computer Science, Engineering

Next step: price one post-92 university (one of the newer universities, such as Greenwich) and one Russell Group university (one of 24 research-heavy universities) in the fee table below. Here’s how Russell Group and post-92 universities compare.
MSc Finance, Accounting and Finance, Business Analytics, Economics

Next step: check each course’s maths and statistics modules, then compare the Finance rows below.
BSc Computer Science, BEng Engineering, MBChB Medicine

Next step: apply through UCAS (the UK’s central system for bachelor’s applications). Medicine also needs the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test), and in the 2024 UCAS cycle only 14% of EU and international Medicine applicants got an offer, according to the Complete University Guide.
BSc Economics, LLB Law, BSc Psychology, Business

Next step: apply through UCAS. Bachelor’s fees are in the after-12th table below.
MBA

For 2026-27 entry, the Greenwich MBA Global costs GBP 20,800 (approx. INR 26.4 lakh). Next step: compare it with other lower-cost UK MBA options.
One-year MSc at a post-92 university

For 2027/28 entry, Sheffield Hallam’s one-year MSc Data Science and AI costs GBP 19,530 for the whole course (approx. INR 24.8 lakh). Next step: shortlist two post-92 options.

Salary is the second filter, not the first. A course that builds on your degree is easier to get into and to explain at interview.

From our counselling desk: when we counsel Indian students on course fit, the mismatch we correct most often is a commerce student chasing a Data Science master's without the maths prerequisites the department expects. Match your background to the entry bar first, then look at pay.

A higher fee buys you better odds of a high salary, not a sure one. Russell Group graduates on the Graduate route were more than twice as likely to earn over GBP 40,000: 20% against 8%. Four in five still earned less than that. If your loan has a hard ceiling, a post-92 fee from our list of affordable UK universities for Indian students is the safer bet. Pay the premium only for a specific employer link or module.

On top of tuition, the Student visa fee was INR 74,060 in India on 12 October 2026. Our cost of studying in the UK guide adds up the full first-year budget.

The UK median was GBP 29,450 for architecture and GBP 30,000 for nursing and related health subjects. Choose Medicine because you’re sure of the career, not as a salary bet.

In the 2024 UCAS cycle, Economics drew 37,590 applications from EU and international students, Law 37,025 and Computer Science 35,335, according to the Complete University Guide.Design Studies drew 22,855 and Politics 19,385 in the same table. Law applicants should read our guide to studying Law in the UK.

Graduate Route and Skilled Worker Jobs After Your Course

As of October 2026, a Graduate visa applied for on or after 1 January 2027 gives 18 months of UK work rights, which is what anyone starting a master’s now will get. Applications made by 31 December 2026 get 2 years, and a PhD gets 3. The application date sets the length; no subject earns extra time.

Budget your job search around 18 months, not 2 years. In the year ending June 2026, 64,495 Indians were granted a Graduate visa. Many UK courses offer a version with a placement year or an industry project, and guides commonly advise picking it, though a placement year usually adds a year of study and living costs.

Staying on after that means finding a job with an employer licensed to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa, and that job has to meet a minimum salary. A course alone does not lead to settlement (the right to stay in the UK permanently). Our post-study work visa guide explains the salary rules and how to switch.

In a Home Office survey published on 12 May 2025, two in three working Graduate route users earned under GBP 30,000. So pick a course that leads to a specific job, not just a popular subject. Our guide to the highest paying jobs in the UK for Indians lists those roles.

These are typical UK jobs each course leads to, using the job titles on the UK government’s official occupation list:

  • Data Science and AI: data engineer, data scientist
  • Computer Science and Cybersecurity: software developer, cyber security professional
  • Business Analytics and Management: business analyst, management consultant
  • Finance and Accounting: chartered accountant, financial analyst
  • Economics: economist, statistician
  • Engineering: mechanical engineer, civil engineer
  • Law: solicitor, paralegal
  • Psychology: clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist
  • Medicine and Nursing: general practitioner (GP), registered nurse
  • Architecture: architect, town planning officer

Solicitor, GP, psychologist and architect jobs need further UK training or registration after your degree, so check that step before you pick the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no single best course; the best one builds on the degree you already hold. Among Indian Graduate route users in the Home Office’s 2025 evaluation, 40% had studied Business and Management, 15% Engineering and Technology and 13% Computing. Those are the busiest routes, so expect the most competition for jobs in them.

Beyond Economics, Law and Computer Science, Management Studies drew 33,240 EU and international UCAS applications in the 2024 cycle and Psychology 19,820, according to the Complete University Guide. Business-related degrees appear three times in its top ten. High demand means more competition, not an easier visa.

Not from the course itself. PR in the UK is called settlement, and it usually comes through a Skilled Worker job with a licensed employer. After the Graduate visa, that job can pay 70% of its normal rate, but never under GBP 33,400 (approx. INR 42.4 lakh). Plan the job first, then the course.

Yes, at master’s level. Glasgow’s MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence runs 12 months full-time, and Sheffield Hallam’s MSc Data Science and AI is a one-year course with September 2027 and January 2028 starts. Most Indians on the Graduate route came for a master’s: 93% had completed one.

No course guarantees a job. One official clue is pay, from the Home Office’s 2025 Graduate route evaluation. Of working Graduate route users who studied STEM subjects, 15% earned over GBP 40,000 (approx. INR 50.8 lakh), against 9% of those who studied other subjects. Pick a course that leads to a named job, then check that job’s entry rules.

Your shortlist of top courses to study in UK is ready when it holds one course that builds on your degree, one university from each fee column, and a full cost your family can carry without counting on a UK salary.

Ardent Overseas counsels Indian students on UK course choice, applications and Student visa files from offices in Hyderabad and Tirupati. We match each shortlist to the student’s degree, budget and job plan, and check every course against the university’s own fee page and the current Home Office rules before an application goes in. Families can meet an adviser in person at either office.
