Masters in Finance in France for Indian Students: 2026 Costs, Schools & Salaries

Masters in Finance in France
Masters in Finance in France

Tuition for a masters in finance in France ranges from EUR 255 a year on Universite Paris Dauphine-PSL’s exempted public route, if granted, to about EUR 48,000 total for a two-year Grande École finance master’s, for the 2026/2027 intake. France placed 12 of the 70 schools in the Financial Times 2026 Masters in Finance ranking, more than any other country, and ESCP topped it for a fourth consecutive year. Most Indian applicants worry whether the degree pays off in INR terms, and whether France wants them to stay after graduation. This guide adds what generic rankings skip: verified all-in EUR-to-INR costs, a real India-specific scholarship comparison, and visa lessons from the Campus France files we’ve actually processed, across HEC, ESCP, SKEMA, ESSEC, EDHEC, seven more schools, and one related quantitative finance option.

Key Takeaways

  • Total tuition for a French finance master’s spans EUR 255 a year at Dauphine-PSL’s exempted public route, if granted, to about EUR 48,000 total for a two-year Grande École programme.
  • France placed 12 of 70 ranked schools in the Financial Times 2026 Masters in Finance ranking, more than any other country; ESCP topped it for a fourth straight year.
  • SKEMA, ESSEC and EDHEC run CFA Institute-aligned tracks; EDHEC has been a CFA university partner since 2006.
  • The Charpak Master’s Scholarship pays EUR 860 a month to Indian and OCI applicants aged 30 or under, and you apply for it yourself.
  • The APS post-study permit runs one year, but Indian master’s graduates can renew it once for up to two years total, under a France-India treaty.
  • Non-EU students can work up to 964 hours a year without a separate work permit.

A master's in finance in France is a one- to two-year postgraduate programme at a Grande École or public university, for banking, asset management and corporate finance careers. Admission typically needs a GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE score. HEC Paris's Master in International Finance, one such programme, topped the 2026 QS ranking.

Four labels get confused. An MSc (Master of Science) or MiF (Master in Finance) is a specialised, single-subject programme, 12 to 24 months. A MiM (Master in Management) is broader, often inside a school’s Programme Grande École. An MBA in finance, like INSEAD’s, targets professionals with three-plus years’ experience, not fresh graduates.

Your study in France plan starts here: the wrong label means the wrong admissions test and peer group. Fresh graduates almost always want an MSc/MiF, not an MBA.

Which are the top French business schools for a master’s in finance?

France's top five finance master's programmes charge about EUR 29,500 to EUR 48,000 in total tuition, depending on the one-year or two-year route. All five appear in the FT 2026 global top 10, and ESCP holds the FT number-one spot for a fourth straight year.

SKEMA’s published EUR 29,500 (1-yr) and EUR 47,000 (2-yr) tuition excludes its mandatory EUR 500-a-year service fee. Add that in and the real all-in cost is EUR 30,000 and EUR 48,000, the figures used above.

HEC Paris: highest global rank, highest price

HEC Paris’s Master in International Finance topped the 2026 QS ranking, though FT ranked it #7. EUR 47,500 is the biggest budget line here.

ESCP: Financial Times’ number one, four years running

ESCP’s EUR 31,800 fee splits into EUR 17,500 core courses, EUR 12,000 specialisation and EUR 2,300 student-service costs. See our list of top business schools in France; graduates found work fast (careers section below).

SKEMA: the CFA-aligned choice with the clearest outcomes data

SKEMA publishes one of the clearest employment outcomes here: a 100% net employment rate at six months. Its CFA University affiliation preps students for CFA Level I and II inside the coursework.

ESSEC: CFA-embedded, but the fee stays unpublished

ESSEC’s Master in Finance ranked FT #4 and embeds CFA exam prep into the syllabus. Its site didn’t publish a combined tuition figure; expect the same Grande École band as its peers.

EDHEC: the oldest CFA partnership in French finance education

EDHEC has been a CFA Institute university partner since 2006, the longest run here. Its MSc in International Finance costs EUR 31,900 (about INR 35.1 lakh) plus a EUR 100 fee for 2026, flagged as subject to change.

More finance master’s options in France

Beyond the top five, seven more French schools offer finance-related master's options, mostly English-taught, with total tuition running from EUR 15,790 at Paris School of Business to EUR 40,800 at emlyon's two-year track, on each school's own 2026 fee page. Université Paris Dauphine-PSL undercuts all of them on its exempted public route.

France has dozens of finance master’s options; this guide prioritises schools with finance-specific curriculum, public fee data, accreditation signals, or published outcomes. The EUR 255 route isn’t automatic; it depends on Dauphine-PSL’s exemption policy and your accepted programme.

Ecole Polytechnique also runs an English-taught economics-and-corporate-finance hybrid master’s for quantitative students, outside this comparison since it isn’t a dedicated finance master’s.

Which programme fits your goal?

Choosing between France's finance master's programmes means matching a school's specialisation to the destination job, not the ranking alone. EDHEC has held CFA Institute university-partner status since 2006, longer than any school here, while SKEMA posted a 100% net employment rate at six months. A CFA-aligned curriculum often matters more for a markets career than rank alone.

Your goal Better-fit schools Why
Investment banking / M&A ESCP, HEC Paris ESCP’s multi-year FT top spot and fast placement; HEC’s QS #1 rank and strongest starting pay
Markets, trading, quant SKEMA, EDHEC SKEMA’s employment outcome and CFA-ready coursework; EDHEC’s long-standing CFA partnership
Lowest total tuition Université Paris Dauphine-PSL Its exemption route undercuts every Grande École fee in this guide by a wide margin
CFA-aligned curriculum SKEMA, ESSEC, EDHEC All three embed CFA Institute exam prep in the coursework instead of leaving it to self-study
1-year / 2-year entry flexibility emlyon, Grenoble EM, NEOMA Each offers both a 1-year direct-entry and a 2-year track, unlike the fixed-length programmes above

How much does a master’s in finance cost in France?

Every enrolled student in France pays the CVEC (Contribution de Vie Étudiante et de Campus, a mandatory campus-life fee) of EUR 105 a year (about INR 11,556) on top of tuition, per the CVEC's 2026-2027 rate page. That sits apart from Grande École tuition, and from Dauphine-PSL's public route, which drops further with an exemption.

Cost layer Amount INR equivalent Applies to
CVEC (campus life fee) EUR 105/yr INR 11,556/yr All enrolled students, 2026-2027
Living costs, regional city EUR 1,200-1,500/mo INR 1.32L-1.65L/mo Rent, food, transport
Living costs, Paris EUR 1,800+/mo INR 1.98L+/mo Rent, food, transport
A Paris-based year adds well over INR 20 lakh in living costs alone. See our cost of studying in France for Indian students guide for the full breakdown.

From our counselling desk: Across 80 Campus France files for the September 2025 intake, proof of funds (how the money was built up, and whether parental income was documented) was the top refusal reason. Build your funds file first. Our guide to proof of funds for the France student visa walks through what clears review.

What are the admission requirements, and how do you apply?

Admission to a French finance master's typically needs a management aptitude test, English proficiency proof and a formal application fee. ESSEC's Master in Finance requires GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE (a French graduate-management test) scores plus a non-refundable EUR 120 (about INR 13,207) fee for 2026. Most other schools follow a similar document-plus-test structure.

  1. Submit your application: one-page CV, one-page motivation letter, official transcripts.
  2. Sit a management aptitude test: GMAT, GRE, TAGE MAGE or CAT, per the school’s list.
  3. Provide an English test score (TOEFL iBT, IELTS or Cambridge) unless you studied 3+ years fully in English.
  4. Pay the non-refundable application fee, EUR 120 at ESSEC and similar at most peers.
  5. Submit two references, a passport copy and an ID photo.
  6. Attend an interview if shortlisted.
Test requirements by school:
School Test requirement
ESSEC GMAT, GRE, TAGE MAGE or CAT mandatory
Grenoble EM Accepts CFA Level 1 instead of a test
KEDGE, NEOMA No standardised test; interview route
emlyon, IÉSEG GMAT/GRE optional, not mandatory
Most Grande Ecoles run several rounds between October and May, so target an early round.

What you’ll actually study

SKEMA's MSc Financial Markets & Investments curriculum spans more than a dozen modules, including corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, fixed income, derivatives and portfolio management, plus six technical modules covering Python, Bloomberg terminal training and SQL. A typical French finance master's blends this classroom-plus-trading-floor structure, whatever school you choose.

Core modules at SKEMA:

  • Corporate finance, governance, M&A and valuation
  • Fixed income, credit derivatives, portfolio management
  • Equity research and financial modelling
  • Alternative investments, private equity and venture capital
  • Sustainable finance, risk management, behavioural finance
  • AI and machine learning for finance

Technical training runs alongside theory: Python, financial econometrics, Bloomberg terminals, Excel VBA, SQL and Power BI. EDHEC covers a comparable syllabus, and PSB’s MSc International Finance runs 525 to 705 teaching hours plus a mandatory four-month internship. Other schools follow a broadly similar structure.

Is the degree officially recognised?

A Grade de Master (Master's Grade) is the French Ministry's official master's-level accreditation; RNCP (Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles) registration adds a second, checkable credential. ESCP's MSc in Finance carries both, at RNCP sheet number 36687, independently verifiable on France's public register.

SKEMA carries the same status at Bac+5 (Level 7) through its DESMI (Diplôme d’Études Spécialisées en Management International) title, RNCP number 41056. EDHEC states its full-time MSc programmes, including finance, are CEFDG-accredited at Grade de Master level, though we couldn’t verify a specific RNCP number for it. Paris School of Business’s MSc International Finance carries RNCP Level 7, under number 41881.

So: Grade de Master is confirmed for ESCP, SKEMA and (per EDHEC’s own claim) EDHEC; an explicit RNCP number is on record for ESCP, SKEMA and PSB. Ask HEC and ESSEC for their exact reference before enrolling.

Scholarships an Indian student can actually get

The France Excellence Charpak Master's Scholarship pays Indian and OCI-card holders aged 30 or under a monthly living allowance of EUR 860 (about INR 94,652) plus a visa-fee waiver, according to Campus France India's 2026 programme page. Charpak is self-applicable directly by the student, unlike Eiffel, which only a French institution can nominate you for.

Charpak also adds French social security, top-up health insurance (mutuelle), priority access to subsidised CROUS housing and canteens, and EUR 1 university-restaurant meals. For 2026, shortlisted candidates interview online between 13 and 30 April; applications typically close in spring. Our guide to scholarships to study in France covers the full timelines.

Eiffel works differently: only your French institution can nominate you to Campus France, with the 2026 deadline set at 8 January. It pays a monthly living allowance of EUR 1,200 (about INR 1.32 lakh) at master’s level from January 2026, per Campus France’s Eiffel implementation page, but you can’t apply directly, so don’t rely on it.

What salary can you expect after a finance master’s in France?

Investment banking analysts in Paris earn EUR 72,500 to EUR 133,500 a year (about INR 79.8 lakh to INR 1.47 crore), averaging roughly EUR 91,000, per Glassdoor's 2026 pay data. French buy-side seats often go to candidates fluent in French, worth building early.

Role Typical range (EUR/yr) INR equivalent
Investment banking analyst 72,500-133,500 79.8L-146.9L
Private equity analyst 58,500-100,000 64.4L-110.1L
Risk manager / risk analyst 64,709-78,913 71.2L-86.8L
Trader / junior quant analyst 45,000-65,000 49.5L-71.5L
Financial analyst about 61,700 average about 67.9L
School Published outcome found for this school (2026)
HEC Paris 100% employed at graduation; average pay grows from EUR 103,000 at start to EUR 169,000 three years out
SKEMA 100% net employment rate at six months
ESCP 100% working within three months; EUR 105,200 average salary after the MSc
Most roles cluster around Paris’s La Défense financial district, spanning front, middle and back office. Start French classes early if you plan to work here. Our guide to jobs in France after a masters covers building that network.

Can you stay back and work in France after the master’s?

The Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour (APS), France's post-study work permit, runs one year to find work or start a business, per Campus France's APS guidance. Indian master's graduates specifically can renew it once for up to two years total, under a France-India bilateral treaty most guides miss.

APS and RECE (“recherche d’emploi/création d’entreprise”) differ: RECE is 12 months, non-renewable, and Indians don’t use it. Under the France-India Migration and Mobility Partnership (Decret n. 2021-1321, 2018), Indian master’s graduates can renew their one-year APS once, up to two years, for first professional experience related to their field, paid at least 1.5 times the monthly SMIC. Campus France’s own page is silent on this renewal and flags itself as being updated; India still appears eligible. You can separately work up to 964 hours a year, about 60% of full-time, on your student carte de sejour (residence card).

The French minimum wage (SMIC) rose in two steps through 2026: EUR 12.02/hour from 1 January, then, per Service-Public.fr’s official announcement, EUR 12.31/hour (about INR 1,355), a 2.41% rise, from 1 June. At the 964-hour cap, that’s roughly EUR 11,867 (about INR 13.06 lakh) a year, useful pocket money, not a funds substitute. Our guide to the post-study work visa in France covers converting the APS into a full work permit.

Red flags before choosing a finance master’s in France

Treat these as disqualifying signals, not minor gaps.

  • No published fee. If a school won’t state combined tuition, like ESSEC, get it in writing first.
  • Unclear degree recognition. Only ESCP’s, SKEMA’s and PSB’s RNCP registrations were confirmed here; ask any other school for its number.
  • No internship component. Several schools didn’t publish internship duration; ask directly.
  • No current outcomes data. Only HEC, SKEMA and ESCP published verifiable 2026 placement figures; press others for theirs.
  • No finance-specific tracks. A generic MiM with a “finance elective” isn’t a dedicated MSc in Finance.
  • No CFA or quant alignment, if that’s your goal. Without an embedded track, you’d self-study the charter alongside a full course load.

Frequently Asked Questions

Total tuition ranges from EUR 255 a year at Dauphine-PSL’s exempted public route, if granted, to about EUR 48,000 total for a two-year Grande École finance master’s. Add the EUR 105 CVEC fee and EUR 1,200 to EUR 1,800 a month for living costs, more in Paris.

Yes. France placed 12 of 70 schools in the Financial Times 2026 Masters in Finance ranking, more than any other country, and Paris’s La Défense hosts major banks, asset managers and private equity firms. IB analysts in Paris average about EUR 91,000 a year.

Not to study. Programmes like SKEMA’s MSc and ESCP’s MSc in Finance are taught fully in English, and admission uses IELTS or TOEFL, not French. But many buy-side, trading and corporate-finance jobs expect working French, so start learning early if you plan to work locally.

Apply for Charpak first. As an Indian or OCI applicant aged 30 or under, you apply yourself, and it pays EUR 860 a month plus a visa-fee waiver and CROUS housing priority. Eiffel pays more (EUR 1,200 a month), but only your school can nominate you.

Yes. The APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour) permit gives graduates one year to find work or start a business, and Indian master’s graduates can renew it once for up to two years total, under a France-India treaty. You can also work up to 964 hours a year during your studies without a separate work permit.

ESCP, SKEMA and (per EDHEC’s own claim) EDHEC carry Grade de Master, the French Ministry’s official master’s accreditation. ESCP, SKEMA and PSB have an explicit, checkable RNCP number on record. Confirm HEC’s and ESSEC’s exact RNCP reference directly before you enrol.
