Student Services Offered by Humber Polytechnic

Pre-Arrival and Orientation Support: International students get help through SOAR (Start Online and Arrive Ready), a pre-arrival advising program. It helps newcomers with immigration forms and household, academic and career planning before they even get to Canada.

Academic Advising and Tutoring: Students can obtain help with selecting courses, academic achievement, study skills. The Learning Resource Commons on North Campus is home to tutoring, writing support and peer support.

Career and Employment Services: Career Centre organizes resume workshops, mock interviews, and job fairs. Students will also have opportunities to work on campus and receive guidance about global job markets.

Student Life at Humber Polytechnic

Clubs and Societies: There are more than 60 clubs for academic, cultural and hobby interests, so there is something for everyone. There are many activities students can sign up for such as Animation Club, Environmental Society or form their own with IGNITE’s support.

Cultural Events and Celebrations: Campuses are filled with multicultural festivals, food bazaars and awareness weeks. It is a means of including and international students sharing their culture, their tradition.’

Student Media and Publications: It is not like other communications and journalism students can contribute to stories in Humber News, Sked line and Radio Humber — real-life newsrooms that function as an educational arena where students learn to create content and communicate.

Leadership and Volunteering: Programs such as LEAD and Peer Mentorship allow students to gain leadership experience and give back to our community. Volunteers help at orientation, open houses, and social programs year-round.

Weekend and Evening Activities: There are movie nights, dance parties, board-game marathons, trivia nights — these and countless other activities keep the campus jumping long after classes have ended for the day. These are usually free and open to all students enrolled in the course.

Multiple Campuses

Scholarships Offered by Humber Polytechnic

International Entrance Scholarship: These scholarships are to be awarded to full-time first year international students. It ranges from $1,000 to $2,000. Candidates must have also demonstrated high performance in previous academic studies and have applied after receiving letter of acceptance.

Bachelor’s Degree Entrance Scholarship: Applied automatically to all international undergraduate applications with an average of 75% or more. The value is $1,500 to $4,000 (based on GPA).

Transfer Student Scholarship: This, for students transferring from another post-secondary institution as well with sterling academic standing. Scholarship value ranges from CAD $1,000-CAD $1,500.

Academic Excellence Scholarship (In-Course): For students who have completed at least one semester and have a GPA of 3.5 or above. Beginning with grants of up to CAD $1,000 issued to students. Applicants are selected based on their academic performance and community involvement.

Financial Need Bursary: Open for I domestic and international students who are needy. Amounts vary, and scholarships up to CAD $1,000 per term are offered. Applications will also be required through their My Humber and require students to demonstrate financial need.

Program-Integrated Work Terms: Work-integrated learning: Numerous and graduate certificate programs offer work-integrated learning of some kind (for example, internships, field placements, co-op terms) as part of their curriculum requirement. Entry Requirements at Humber Polytechnic

Undergraduate Programs: A passing grade of at least 70% is usually required. Some programs will have other requirements, including portfolios or math credits.

Postgraduate Certificates: Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Competitive programs may also require relevant work experience or certain undergraduate coursework, depending on the major.

English Language Requirements: Students must demonstrate proficiency in English in one of the following ways:

  1. IELTS Academic: overall 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each module).
  2. TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 88.
  3. Duolingo: Minimum score of 115.
  4. A few other, especially health or education programs, may have higher required English scores.

Document Submission: All applicants from abroad must submit the following documents: transcripts of records English language proficiency certificate photocopy of the passport other additional documents according to the program (portfolio/ Curriculum vitae).

Conditional Admission: For students who do not meet this requirement, but meet the academic requirement, the college will put them into the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, in Humber, provided they also meet the specific language requirement for EAP.

Acceptance Rate

  1. Moderate Admission Selectivity: Humber Polytechnic’s moderately selective, with an acceptance rate of about 70 percent. This number by itself does not tell us a whole lot, since even students who completed the admission process with a 3.4-3.8 will get selected and even students who did not complete have been admitted because of a high-test score or amazing essay .
  2. International Student Consideration: This 70 percent goes for international applicants too, but international applicants are read closely. In addition to educational requirements, students need to provide a valid result for English language proficiency and must submit all the documents required8 in to considered.
  3. Holistic Review Process: Humber is not academics only that admits. Instead, the College uses a comprehensive review process that considers extra-academic achievement, relevant (if applicable) experience, and the entire application in context.
  4. No Standardized Test Requirement: Standardized Testing: SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT not required for most undergraduate or postgraduate certificate programs at Humber. This system provides students with some relief from the influence of exam scores on admission.
  5. Application Timeline: The sooner you apply the better your chances of getting accepted, especially for programs that are high in demand and have limited seating for applications.
