MBA in UK Without GMAT: 10 Universities You Can Apply To in 2026

An MBA in UK without GMAT is a real route, not a workaround. The University of Exeter says so on its One Planet MBA course page for 2026 entry: “We do not require GMAT, but if you have a GMAT Score you should upload with your application in support of your academic qualifications.” If you’re staring at a round that closes in three months and no test score, that single line changes your shortlist. Below are ten universities you can apply to without a score, six that will still ask you for a test, and what each one wants instead.
Key Takeaways
- Bath and Exeter state on their own pages that a GMAT is not required. Both still want three years of work experience.
- Edinburgh and Strathclyde are conditional, not test-free. Edinburgh sets minimums where the academic record falls short.
- Chester, Northampton, Greenwich, Lancaster and Birmingham City set no test requirement at all: silence on a page, not a published waiver.
- Middlesex inverts the rule, asking 550 only from applicants without an honours degree or professional qualifications.
- Warwick, Imperial, the full-time Cambridge MBA, London Business School, Alliance Manchester and Cranfield all require a test.
- Verified fees here run from GBP 15,700 (about INR 20.11 lakh) to GBP 38,950 (about INR 49.90 lakh).
MBA in UK without GMAT: the three routes you can actually apply through
Worried that "no GMAT required" is marketing rather than policy? It is real, but the phrase covers three different situations, and only one of them is a promise you can hold a school to. Sort your shortlist into these three classes before you do anything else, because the difference decides whether you hold a right or are relying on a silence.
- Class A, stated. The page says the test is not required. Two schools say it outright, two with a condition attached.
- Class B, absent. The GMAT appears nowhere in the entry requirements. Nobody waived anything, and nobody asked either.
- Class C, inverted. The page asks for a score only from applicants missing something else, usually a degree.
Class A is the one worth chasing. The University of Bath MBA entry requirements page for 2026 entry states: “You do not need GMAT to study our MBA, but we welcome applicants with a GMAT score.” Strathclyde shows why the conditional variant matters: its 2026 entry page calls the Graduate Management Admission Test “not a standard requirement of our admissions process”, then adds “we may ask you to undertake such a test” in the very same sentence.
Class B is quieter and easier to misread. The University of Chester’s 2026/27 entry requirements ask for a 2:2 honours degree in any discipline and never name the GMAT. Treat that as an absence you are relying on, not a waiver granted to you, and re-check the page in the month you apply, because a silence can be filled without notice.
Class C is rarer and reads backwards. Middlesex University’s 2026 entry page says: “If you do not possess either an honours degree or professional qualifications, you are welcome to apply, but we normally require a GMAT score of at least 550 points.” The score stands in for the degree rather than sitting on top of it, so if you hold a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree that clause never touches you.
One thing the classes never touch: the GMAT and IELTS are unrelated. A GMAT is an admissions test a school chooses to set, while IELTS is an English requirement that also feeds your visa file. Dropping one never drops the other, and the English side sits in our guide to studying in the UK without IELTS.
10 UK universities that accept an MBA application without GMAT
Ten UK MBA pages set no GMAT requirement that would block a 2026/27 application, with published international fees from GBP 15,700 (about INR 20.11 lakh) at the University of Chester MBA. Only Chester and Northampton fall under INR 25 lakh in tuition. Degree class and work experience carry the file instead.
| University | What its page says | Class | What it asks instead | Tuition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Bath | Not required; welcomed if held | A: stated | 2:1, plus 3 years full-time post-graduation | GBP 38,950 (INR 49.90 lakh) |
| University of Exeter | Not required; upload a score if held | A: stated | 3 years’ managerial experience; degree class unpublished | GBP 34,500 (INR 44.20 lakh) |
| University of Edinburgh | Not compulsory; minimums apply if academics fall short | A: conditional | First-class or 2:1, plus 3 years managing | Not published |
| University of Strathclyde | Not standard, but the school may still ask | A: conditional | 3 years managing people and resources; min age 24 | Not published |
| University of Chester | No mention in the entry requirements | B: absent | 2:2 honours; experience assessed for equivalence | GBP 15,700 (INR 20.11 lakh) |
| University of Northampton | No mention in the entry requirements | B: absent | First or second class honours; experience optional | GBP 19,500 (INR 24.98 lakh) |
| University of Greenwich | No mention in the entry requirements | B: absent | 2:2 from outside the UK; no experience minimum | GBP 20,800 (INR 26.65 lakh) |
| Lancaster University | No mention in the entry requirements | B: absent | 2:2 honours, plus 3 years since graduation | GBP 33,000 (INR 42.28 lakh) |
| Birmingham City University | No mention in the entry requirements | B: absent | 2.2 honours minimum; no experience required | GBP 20,370 (INR 26.10 lakh) |
| Middlesex University | Asked only without an honours degree or professional qualification | C: inverted | 2.2 honours; all intakes run as non-experience | GBP 21,000 (INR 26.90 lakh) |
If you have no score and no time to sit one, shortlist from Class A only. A Class B page has promised you nothing and can add a test between today and the day you apply, so treat those five as usable but unguaranteed, and screenshot the entry requirements on the day you submit.
What the no-GMAT schools ask for instead
Read the fourth column before the fifth, because a page that skips the GMAT is not an easier or a cheaper page. Lancaster never mentions the test and still asks for three years of professional work since graduation, at more than double Chester’s fee. Bath says plainly that you don’t need the test, then wants the same three years plus a 2:1. Edinburgh publishes a minimum of 555 on the GMAT Focus Edition, or 600 on the 10th Edition, for applicants whose academic record falls short, which is why it sits in Class A conditional rather than Class A stated. The fee column is tuition only, so read it against the wider cost of studying in the UK.
Six UK business schools that will still ask you for a test
Six schools that appear on almost every no-GMAT shortlist publish the opposite on their own pages. Delete them from yours before you spend an application fee, because none of the six has a route in that skips a test.
Warwick’s full-time MBA page for September 2026 entry states: “You must complete either the GMAT, GRE or Warwick Test as part of your admission to WBS.” A test is mandatory there; only which test you sit is flexible.
- Warwick Business School: no minimum score, but a current class average of 670 on the 10th Edition or 615 on the Focus Edition.
- Imperial College Business School: a minimum overall GMAT of 555, or at least 600 on the 10th Edition, against a current average of 666.
- Cambridge Judge, full-time MBA: “You’ll need either a GMAT, GMAT Focus Edition or GRE score to apply”, with current means of 625 to 635.
- London Business School: “You must have a valid GMAT or GRE test score before submitting an application”, class average near 645.
- Alliance Manchester Business School: “It is a requirement to take an admissions test, normally GMAT or GRE”.
- Cranfield: a current class average GMAT of 680, or 635 under the Focus Edition.
Every MBA in UK without GMAT shortlist we see at our Hyderabad desk puts Warwick or Imperial on it, and each takes ten seconds to disprove. Open the school’s own entry-requirements page before you add any name to a shortlist. Rounds and class profiles for these six belong to our wider UK MBA guide.
Three names that appear on popular lists are missing from the table above: Durham University, the University of East London and the University of Bedfordshire. Check those yourself rather than trusting any shortlist, including this one. Open the course page, find “Entry requirements”, and search it for “GMAT”. If the word appears, read the sentence around it for a condition; if it never appears, you are in Class B, so screenshot the page on the day you submit. On Bristol Business School’s listing, open the subject category rather than hunting for a programme title.
How to request a GMAT waiver, and why you get one shot
A waiver request is not free to try. Imperial College Business School warns on its GMAT waiver request form for the 2026 cycle: "If your GMAT waiver request is declined subsequent requests won't be reconsidered and will be automatically declined." One decision closes the route for the whole cycle, so send it only when the file behind it is strong.
- Submit the GMAT waiver request form before your application, not alongside it.
- Attach your transcripts and an up-to-date CV.
- Wait up to seven working days for a case-by-case review.
- Expect the committee to look for exceptional academic performance and strong quantitative skills, which is a judgment on your transcript, not a claim in your CV.
Imperial grants “a small number of waivers” each cycle, in its own words, and publishes no count or percentage. Aiming at a September intake means the request goes in weeks before the round you want, not alongside it.
Cambridge splits the answer by programme, which trips up plenty of shortlists. The Cambridge Executive MBA offers two routes as of August 2026: submit a GMAT, EA or GRE score, or “apply for a GMAT, EA or GRE waiver as part of your application”. EA is the Executive Assessment, a shorter test from the GMAT family built for working managers. That waiver belongs to the Executive MBA alone, and Cambridge’s full-time MBA has no waiver route at all, so check which programme a shortlist is talking about before you rely on it.
In-house admissions tests that replace the GMAT
Where a school sets its own test instead, the school decides which candidates may sit it. That is the opposite of the flexibility these tests are usually described as offering, and it is why an in-house option should never be the reason a school stays on your list.
Cranfield’s Transformation MBA for 2026-27 entry states that the Cranfield Admission Test, its in-house aptitude test, “can be taken online once an application has been submitted”: two hours, four sections of 30 minutes each.
| Test | School | When you sit it | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warwick Test | Warwick Business School | After interview, if offered to you | Certain candidates only, dependent on personal circumstance |
| Manchester Admissions Test | Alliance Manchester Business School | In exceptional circumstances only | Candidates “may be permitted” to sit it; no score published |
| Cranfield Admission Test | Cranfield University | Online, once your application is submitted | Two hours, four sections of 30 minutes |
| Discretionary test | University of Strathclyde | If the school decides to ask | Not standard; the right to set one is reserved |
All four rows share one thing: you cannot open a Warwick application and elect the Warwick Test in place of the GMAT, and Manchester’s “may be permitted” is not an invitation. Plan on sitting a standard test at any of these four schools and treat an in-house alternative as a bonus if it arrives.
What your MBA application needs without a GMAT score
Work experience does the job the score would have done, but the same two words mean different things at different schools. Read each definition before deciding you meet it: "three years" and "managerial" are not the fixed quantities they look like.
The University of Exeter One Planet MBA requires “a minimum of three years’ managerial experience (managing people and/or substantive projects)” for 2026 entry. Managerial, not merely full-time: three years at a desk with no team and no project does not clear that bar.
Edinburgh reads the same word far more widely, counting a managerial role as any project, task or remit where you guided teams, people or resources towards a goal. An Indian IT engineer who ran a four-person module through two release cycles has a real story to tell there, and under Exeter’s wording may not. Match your evidence to each definition rather than sending one CV everywhere.
- Strathclyde sets a minimum age. Applicants must be at least 24 and hold three years of post-graduation experience where managing people and resources played a significant role. A 22-year-old graduate is out on age alone.
- Chester attaches its condition after entry, not at it. Where a student cannot show previous work experience, the university assesses for equivalence and the student “will be required to engage with appropriate employment-related experience early on during their study”.
- All ten pages leave your degree equivalence to admissions. Not one of them prints the Indian percentage or CGPA that clears its honours bar, so get your equivalence confirmed in writing before you pay an application fee.
If experience is your real blocker rather than the test, start with Northampton, Birmingham City and Middlesex, the three that ask least: the full picture sits in our guide to a UK MBA without work experience, and a specialist master’s is the other door, with top UK universities for a master’s to compare against.
From our counselling desk: in the MBA files we ran for the September 2026 round, what decided a no-GMAT application was never the missing score. It was the work experience letter: who signed it, whether it named a team or a budget, and whether its dates matched the CV. We've also watched applicants spend their single Imperial waiver request on a file a Class A school would have read happily without any score.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a UK MBA without GMAT and without IELTS?
Those are two separate doors and they open independently. A school can drop the GMAT and still want English evidence, because English also feeds your visa file. No MBA page in this set drops both at once, so check the test line and the English line separately.
Does a no-GMAT school mean easier admission?
No. Removing the test shifts the decision onto your degree class, your work experience letter and your essays. With no score to offset a weak transcript, an average academic record has nowhere to hide. Several no-GMAT pages set an experience bar that a GMAT-required school does not.
Is a GMAT waiver worth requesting?
Only where the school runs a formal waiver route, and only if your transcript is strong. Most schools in this article publish no waiver process at all, because they set nothing to waive. Requesting one where none exists simply delays your application by weeks.
Do UK MBAs accept a three-year Indian degree?
The pages state a UK honours class plus an international-equivalent clause and leave the judgment to admissions, so send your transcript early. A recognised professional qualification can stand in too: for 2026 entry, Imperial accepts named accountancy bodies in place of a second-class honours degree.
Does skipping the GMAT hurt you after graduation?
Employers rarely ask for the score, but the salary gate does bite. Under the Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Worker in force in 2026, a Skilled Worker salary must equal or exceed both GBP 41,700 a year and the going rate for the occupation code.
Ardent Overseas counsels Indian students from offices in Hyderabad and Tirupati, and our advisers build every MBA shortlist from the university’s own entry requirements page rather than a ranking list.
