The University of Salford  was founded in 1896 when it was known as the Royal Technical College in Salford, and has its roots in the Industrial Revolution, with the establishment of many of the mechanics institutes and technical/education colleges created at this time. It was a city of commerce centred on its textile industry and bustling Salford docks. It traces its origins to the Pendleton Mechanics Institute, opened in 1850, and the Salford Working Men’s College opened in 1858 which in 1896 became the Royal Technical Institute, Salford.

Admission requirements for undergraduate entry

Academic Requirements:

  1. Educational requirement: The 12 years education or qualifying equivalent qualification in the relevant country has to be demonstrated by the applicants.

English Language Proficiency:

  1. IELTS Academic: Minimum Overall 6.0, no band below 5.5.
  2. Equivalent Tests: Pearson Test of English (PTE): At most, 59 in each component. Overall minimum is 59.
  3. Languages: At least B2 level certified.
  4. Postgraduate Taught Course entry requirements

Academic Requirements: The candidate must have a recognized undergraduate degree or its equivalent (normally a second-class honor or higher).

English Language Proficiency:

  1. IELTS Academic: Minimum English language entry requirements are: At least 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in any components.
  2. For Salford Business School research programs:
  3. IELTS Academic: The worst component is above 6.5 and the worst component score for all other components is 7.0.
  4. PTE: Minimum 60 in each component, minimum 70 overall.

International Foundation Year: This material is intended to serve students and provide them with supplementary preparation before they begin taking courses in undergraduate study.

English Language Requirement: IELTS Academic for UKVI: No component will score lower than 4.0 and minimum total score of 4.5.

Pearson PTE Academic UKVI: There are also regional qualifications and English language proficiency while the medium of education is French or English.
