Entry Requirements at University of Winchester

The University of Winchester Admissions Department has inclusive & flexible entry requirements to enable us to use a wide variety of different qualifications from all over the globe.

General Requirements:

  1.  Applicants or their equivalent, such as BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas, must have taken at least two A levels.
  2. At AS level you can still study modules in a BTEC subject, music or dance qualification, Extended Project (EPQ) or key/qualifying points.

International Baccalaureate: And a minimum of 24 points.

Indian Applicants:

  1. Candidates are expected to be 12th Grade complete with a score between 50% to 70%.
  2. Direct entry may be considered with:
  3. Students should have scored 70 or above in ISC (Cise) and Tamil Nadu boards.
  4. Above 60% in WB board.
  5. In Maharashtra board, above 75%.
  6. The first year completion from a recognized Indian university is also accepted.
  7. You usually need to have a bachelor degree.

General Requirements:

  1. Minimum 55% post matriculation from any recognized university.
  2. India could have strict marking schemes where an individual can have a degree from the top metropolitan universities with marks within 58% – 62%.

English Language Proficiency:

  1. Standard IELTS requirement: Minimum required score is in each component and a total score of not less than 6.0.
  2. e.g. Nursing, Physiotherapy – requirements for specific courses are higher than on course pages.

  1. Standard IELTS: 5.Minimum overall of 5 with minimum 5.5 in all components.
  2. Non-standard programs: IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.

Postgraduate Study:

  1. IELTS: 6.An overall minimum of 0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
  2. Oxford ELT: Overall scores of 6.0 (min. 5.0 per comp.).

Exceptions: Programs that have professional accreditation (Social Work, for instance, or Journalism) may require a higher IELTS score.

Alternative Qualifications Accepted

  1. Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) and a good grade (Grade C or above).
  2. English (various English components) International Baccalaureate (English).
  3. To apply, you must have a UK based degree or equivalent evidence of English proficiency.

Indian Applicants:

  1. Subjects: Candidates with a standard XII with 70 per cent in English (first attempt), from all states boards apart from Punjab and Haryana.
  2. The qualification must be dated in the last two years for undergraduate and in the last 5 years for postgraduate courses.

Mature Students: Work experience and alternative qualifications will be recognized and applications received from mature students are very welcome.
