Foundation Entry Requirements

1. For students interested in foundation courses, Heriot-Watt typically requires:
2. Standard 10+1 with at least 70 % overall.
3. Otherwise Standard 10 + 2 with minimum 55%.
4. These should be recent: that is dated less than five years at the date of enrolment in the intended degree program.

Undergraduate Entry requirements 

1. For undergraduate programs, Heriot-Watt generally accepts:
2. Seventy percent or above in the overall average of Class XII.
3. Although academic requirements and subject specific scores of some specific programs may differ depending upon the nature of the course they are covering.
4. The degree program enrolment must be within three years of the date that the undergraduate qualifications were obtained.

Entry requirements for the Pre-Masters

1. For those pursuing a Pre-Masters program, the typical requirements include:
2. A three year bachelor’s degree with at least 50% or 45% four year bachelor’s.
3. A four year Bachelor’s degree with 50% can be required for accelerated Pre Masters.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

1. A three-year Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% (comparable to a UK 2:1).
2. For programs accepting a UK 2:2 equivalent, a three-year Bachelor’s degree with 55%.

English Language Requirements: As all courses are conducted in English, Heriot-Watt requires applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following methods:

Completion of a Qualification in a Majority English-Speaking Country: English is not required to be shown if the student is from a UKVI recognized majority English-speaking country, or studied for a diploma or degree in such a country within the last five years.

Completion of an English-Taught Degree from a Recognized University: This degree can be helpful in proving English proficiency, if it’s completed within the three years in the overseas campus of any UK university.

Approved English Language Tests: accepted Tests  vary from program level to program level.

Undergraduate: Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component in IELTS Academic, or PTE Academic with a minimum score of 65 (minimum 59).

Postgraduate: You need an IELTS of 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component) for most STEM and non-STEM programs. In some programs e.g. interpreting and translating require a higher IELTS score of 7.0 (no component less than 6.5).

Postgraduate Research: Applicants must have an overall ielts score of 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) acceptable score with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, a score of 68 (minimum 63) in the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic test or a score of 85 (minimum 85) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language – internet based test (TOEFL iBT).

School-Level English Qualifications: Qualifications like GCE A-levels or certain international baccalaureate scores may also be acceptable within five years of the intended enrolment date

Employer Certification for Postgraduate Students: If there are compelling reasons to believe that proof of English proficiency will not be possible, postgraduate applicants who have been employed in an English speaking environment for at least six months can provide  an official employer’s letter.

Pre-CAS Interview: Although it is at the discretion of the university, there is the right to carry out pre CAS interviews of applicants to check their English proficiency.
