Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship to Study in USA for Indians

Eligibility requirements for the scholarships vary depending on the provider, but most require excellent academic performance and financial need. Other factors that may be considered include leadership potential or extracurricular activities. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, so your grades will be a significant factor in determining whether or not you receive a scholarship. In addition, you may be required to submit an essay or personal statement as part of your application.

  1. Most scholarships require applicants to be citizens of India, however, some may also allow US permanent residents from Indian communities or at least one parent being Indian to apply if they are planning on attending school in the USA.
  1. Each scholarship may have additional requirements such as maintaining a certain GPA or achieving specified scores on standardized tests such as the GMAT or GRE. Many universities require that applicants maintain at least a certain GPA in order to remain eligible for the award of their scholarship after each semester.
  2. It is important to note the application deadline since many scholarships have limited funding and there are early deadlines for scholarship programs with rolling admissions while some scholarships may be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  3. Few scholarship programs have minimum requirements for income level and/or academic background while others do not.
  4. Certain International Student Scholarships require an F1 Visa or J1 Visa status at the time of application.

Fullbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship

The Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship is a Government scholarship offered to International Students by the United States government. The fellowship provides opportunities for international students to pursue master’s programs at American universities and in specified streams. Fellows are selected based on their academic merit and potential for future leadership in their field.

The Fulbright-Nehru Research Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for international students who want to pursue graduate studies or conduct research in the United States.

Eligibility requirements:

  1. Being a citizen of India and having a valid passport.
  2. Applicants must also have a 4 years US bachelor’s degree with at least 55% or equivalent and must demonstrate experince in leadership & community service.
  3. Applicant needs to have at least 3 years of professional experience in a related field.

Akhtarali H. Tobaccowala Fellowship

The Akhtarali H. Tobaccowala Fellowship is a prestigious award offered to 2 Indian students of $25000 each who wish to pursue an MBA at the Chicago Booth School of Business and is considered a business scholarship fund. The fellowship was established in memory of Akhtarali H. Tobaccowala, a distinguished Indian businessman and philanthropist.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Eligible candidates must be citizens of India and have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in India.
  2. They must also demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership potential, and commitment to service.

  1. Business
  2. Management

The fellowship provides financial assistance for up to two years of graduate study at Chicago Booth School of Business in the United States. Recipients are selected based on their academic merit and potential to contribute to their field of study.

Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation

The Narotam Sheksaria scholarship for Higher studies will be offered to outstanding Indian students who wish to study postgraduate courses in India or abroad. The Foundation was established by Narotam Sheksaria, an Indian entrepreneur with a social commitment in collaboration with other organizations.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. To be eligible for a scholarship applicant must be from India and under 30 years and must have applied or received admission from Universities abroad.
  2. Students who completed their under graduation degree or are in their final year awaiting results are also eligible to apply for a Scholarship.
  3. Applicants must have excellent academic achievement along with GRE, and GMAT scores whichever are required for admission into desired University.

Foundation has awarded 214 scholarships till date for students who got acceptance from prestigeous institutions across globe.

Aga Foundation Scholarship

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships to international students each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. 

The Foundation gives priority to students from countries where AKF works, who are committed to working in development programs upon completion of their studies, and who show evidence of superior academic achievement.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Candidates must Be a national of a developing country as defined by the Aga Khan Development Network.
  2. Have completed their undergraduate studies with consistent and excellent academic results.
  3. Demonstrate financial need, Be below the age of 30 years old and expected to have some experience in their interested field.

These scholarships will be awarded only to the applicants who wish to study at reputable universities in the USA.

 

Tata Scholarship for Cornell University

The Tata Scholarship for Cornell University is awarded to an approx 20 students each year to pursue undergraduate courses at Cornell University, USA. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, room and board, and other related expenses. Tata Scholars are selected based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to Tata values

Tata Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study abroad. Tata Scholarship offers need-based financial aid for Indian student.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. To be eligible for the Tata Scholarship, applicants must be Indian citizens or of Indian origin.
  2. Have a demonstrated financial need, and be admitted to Cornell University as a first-year undergraduate course.

Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust scholarship

The Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust offers scholarships to Indian women students who wish to pursue higher education in the United States in selected fields. The Trust was established in memory of Lady Meherbai D Tata, wife of Sir Ratan Tata, by their son Dorabji Tata. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious scholarships for Indian students in the US.

The scholarship is available for Indian nationals who wish to pursue full-time studies at recognized institutions abroad. The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to deserving and needy students. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and need.

Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent. Each year pto 10 receipients will be awarded this scholarship

The Jamsetjee Nusserwanjee Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians

The J.N. Tata Endowment loan scholarship is a need-based scholarship that provides financial assistance to Indian students who wish to pursue higher education abroad. The scholarship is named after Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. 

The J.N. Tata Endowment was established in 1892 with a mission to promote higher education for Indians. The scholarships are awarded based on merit and financial need.

Since its inception, the J.N. Tata Endowment has awarded over 5,600 scholarships to Indian students pursuing a wide range of academic disciplines. The scholarship is highly competitive, and recipients are selected based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and financial need.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be Indian from Mumbai and not more than 45 years old by the time of application.
  2. Undergraduate degree from a recognized Indian University. Must have 60% & Above in undergraduate, students who are in their final year awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
  3. Students who are currently pursuing 2nd year of master’s are also eligible to apply for scholarships
  4. Applicants need to have good GRE, GMAT, and IELTS/TOEFL Scores and need to take the online Thinking Skills Assessment test after initial screening.

AAUW International Fellowships

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers Fellowships for international women students pursuing full-time graduate or postgraduate study in the United States. The AAUW International Fellowship is a highly competitive award, and only a small number of students are typically selected each year.

Indian students are eligible to apply for AAUW International Fellowships if they are pursuing full-time graduate or postgraduate study at an accredited university in the United States. Applicants must have a strong record of academic achievement and demonstrate significant financial need. They must also be able to provide proof of their intent to return to India after completing their studies.

YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship

The YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship is an annual scholarship offered to Indian students who are enrolled in a YouAreWelcomeHere partnered with higher educational institutions or universities in the United States. The scholarship is open to students of all majors.

The YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to diversity and who show exceptional Leadership skills. Winners are chosen based on their essay and a 2 to 5 minutes video recording.

LSEF – UMass Scholarship

The LSEF – UMass Scholarship is a scholarship offered to students of Indian descent who are studying at the University of Massachusetts. The scholarship was established in 2019 by Lakshmi and Srinivasan Selvaraju, in honor of their son, Selvaraju Lakshmanan.

Students selected for a grant need to study the first year at the JK Lakshmipat University, and the second year at the UMass Amherst and will be eligible for OPT upon successful completion of their master’s. A dual degree will be awarded to the students enrolled.

S.N. Bose Scholars Student Exchange Program for Indian Students

The S.N. Bose Scholars Student Exchange Program for Indian Students is a scholarship program that was founded in 2007 by the S.N. Bose Foundation. The program is open to students who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in India. 

The goal of the program is to provide Indian students with the opportunity to study at some of the best universities in the United States.

Students who are interested in applying for the program must first take the online eligibility test, which is available on the S.N. Bose Scholars website. The test measures a student’s English proficiency, academic achievement, and general knowledge of the United States. Only students who score above a certain cutoff point are eligible to apply for the scholarship program.

The scholarship program covers the cost of tuition and living expenses for the duration of the student’s stay in the United States. In addition, students are provided with a monthly stipend to help cover their living expenses. The scholarship also includes health insurance coverage and a one-time travel allowance.
