Opportunities for Internship Abroad

Students may decide to find their own internships or take part in pre-arranged internships offered through organizations.

Independently Organized Internships:

Students can get in touch with universities, companies or research institutions in the country, or area of interest, they prefer.

Recommendation: Professors can be contacted for their networks; online platforms can be used, or partnerships with German companies with facilities all over the world can be explored.

Requirements: Good chances of acceptance might be only through a strong motivation letter, CV, and the willingness to commit yourself to longer internships (8 weeks or longer).

Entry Requirements at University of Göttingen

Undergraduate Programs

Academic Requirements:

A recognized university entrance qualification (HZB), equivalent to a German Abitur, is required.

German language proficiency (proof at DSH 2 level or equivalent [TesteDaF, 4 in all categories]) is required.

For English taught programs additional English proficiency tests (minimum IELTS 6 or TOEFL iBT 80) can be requested.

  • Letter of motivation.
  • If the applicant was younger than 18 when making the application, parental authorization.
  • Health insurance proof.
  • Applicable statutory declaration.

Master’s Programs

General Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field, GPA (German scale) of at least 2.5.

And specific coursework or credits in related fields for other programs.

Language Proficiency:

For German-taught programs: DSH-2 or TestDaF level 4.

For English-taught programs:

Minimum English language: IELTS 6.5, or TOEFL iBT 95 (or equivalent).

Students with degrees taught in English or who have previously studied in an English speaking country are exempt.

Program-Specific Requirements:

Admission interviews, letters of recommendation, or further documentation such as research proposals, may be needed for entry into certain programs.

Evaluation Fee:

All international applicants: EUR 65.

Doctoral Programs (Ph.D.)

Eligibility:

Relevant postgraduate degree, i.e. Master (120 ECTS) or equivalent qualifications, such as Diploma with 300 ECTS min.

This program is open to candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree and having already completed 60 ECTS credits of their Master’s program with an average grade of 2.0 or better.

Language Proficiency:

German proficiency at DSH-2 level (or equivalent), or English proficiency with:

IELTS 7 or equivalent; TOEFL iBT 80, or higher, as specified for individual programs.

Subject-Specific Knowledge:

Evidence of basic knowledge of the relevant discipline, at the equivalent of 6 ECTS credits, as stated in specialized field including environment law, biology of biodiversity and sustainable farming practices, according to the training program.

Additional Requirements:

A clear research proposal, a motivation letter and CV.

Selection of the studies was approved by the academic supervisors and there was relevance to the previously approved studies.

Requirements of English proficiency

For students whose primary language is not English:

  • IELTS: Depending on the program requirements, 6–7.
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum 80–95.
  • Cambridge English: The upper level of their certificate has been broken down: Advanced (B grade) or Proficiency (C grade).
