Entry Requirements at The University of Oslo

For Undergraduate Entry: Applicants must satisfy the requirements of Norwegian Universities & College Admission Services (Samordna Opptak). All bachelor’s programs are taught in Norwegian language only, thereby international students must show evidence of Norwegian language proficiency. UiO does not offer any preparatory Norwegian language courses.

For Postgraduate Entry (English Taught)

  1. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree equivalent to Norwegian standards. For Indian applicants, a four years bachelor’s degree or three years bachelor’s degree plus one year of postgraduate degree.
  2. Subject specialty is also mandatory, need at least 80 ECTS credits in relevant subject. The grade of bachelor’s degree must be at least C as per Norwegian grading system.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

  1. Applicants must demonstrate prescribed English language proficiency via following tests – IELTS – overall score of 6.5 with minimum 6.5 in Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening or TOEFL iBT or TOEFL Home Edition – overall score of 90 with 20 in Listening & Speaking, 19 in Reading and 24 in Writing.
  2. PTE Academic or PTE Academic Online – overall score of 62 with 58 in every component. Applicants must further note that, no one skill retake is accepted and TOEFL My Best are also not accepted.

Exemptions from English Tests: Applicants who belongs to countries where English is primary medium of instruction like, Australia, Canada, UK, USA and Ireland. International Baccalaureate (IB) applicants who have achieved score of 04 in English at Higher Level (HL) and score of 06 in Standard Level (SL). Cambridge English – C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency and B2 First with specific grades.

For Doctoral Programs Entry: Applicants must have a master’s degree with outstanding academic achievements, a research proposal and funding availability for research through fellowship and grants.

For Exchange Programs Entry: Applicants from other universities aspiring to study at the UiO must complete entry formalities at home university which has collaboration with UiO. Students coming to university under ERASMUS+, NORDPLUS/NORDLYS and any other international mobility agreement are welcomed.

Deadlines: For postgraduate programs, application starting date is 1st of February and last date is 15th of April. For early admission decision deadline is 1st of March. For PhD programs rolling deadlines as per department and student exchange program deadlines differs as per agreement.
