Entry Requirements at Norwegian University of Science & Technology

For Undergraduate Entry

  1. Generally, applicants must have secondary school education qualification at par with Norwegian secondary school diploma. Few programs ask for subject specialty in mathematics and science.
  2. Majority of programs are taught in Norwegian language, hence applicants must show evidence of proficiency in Norwegian language. To prove Norwegian language proficiency, applicants must pass Bergenstest or any other equivalent test.

For Postgraduate Entry: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with at least 180 ECTS credits in the concerned subject. Minimum C grade is mandatory as per ECTS grading. Few programs may demand additional requirements such as work experience or specified courses.

For Doctoral Programs Entry: Applicants need a postgraduate degree with minimum B grade in concerned subject. At least A or B grade is compulsory in master’s thesis. Strong English language proficiency is also mandatory. After submitting research proposal, applicant must seek a faculty supervisor. The process of admission consists of two phases – in preliminary assessment, university will match supervisor with the candidate and in second phase, candidates must submit application to admission board.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

  1. All non-native speakers must demonstrate prescribed English language proficiency via following tests – TOEFL iBT – overall score of 90 or 600 in paper based test or IELTS – overall score of 6.5 in every section or PTE Academic – minimum 62 or Cambridge English Test – first certificate in English or certificate in advanced English or certificate of proficiency in English.
  2. Applicants who had studied at English medium institution for an year or hold a degree in English language or applicants from English speaking countries are exempted from the aforementioned tests.

Exchange & Placement Students: Students from partnering universities can apply for exchange program for internships or research placement. They need to have nomination form home university and must satisfy the language proficiency requirements for courses applied.
