Entry Requirements at University of Bamberg

Applications for Admission – (Undergraduate General Programs)

  1. Applicants should be in possession of a secondary school-leaving certificate, at least equivalent to the German Abitur (for example Indian HSC, UK A-levels, A diploma).
  2. The certificate should also be recognized either directly or Studienkolleg must be completed if direct admission is not acceptable.
  3. Applicants must have a B2-level proof of German language (e.g. Test DaF 4×4, DSH-2, Goethe-Certificate B2 or higher).
  4. A B2 level of English for English-taught bachelor’s programs (IELTS 5.5–6.5 or TOEFL iBT 72+).
  5. All the documents should be translated in either German or English and verified according to university rules.

Postgraduate Requirements

  1. An acceptable bachelor’s degree (minimum 180 ECTS credits, or international equivalent).
  2. They must demonstrate good to excellent grades; usually equivalent to a German GPA of 2.5 or better.
  3. Certain programs, including Cultural Studies of the Middle East, ask for prior study in relevant fields (e.g., cultural studies, history, Islamic studies).
  4. English taught degrees: C1 level English
  5. B2 in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, or Hebrew for Middle Eastern studies
  6. For selective or elite programs, applicants must complete a 20-minute aptitude interview.

Language Proficiency

  1. For English-taught programs, you also need to have C1 level English (IELTS 7.0+, TOEFL iBT 90+, Cambridge Advanced).
  2. The level of German needed are generally B2 for undergraduate courses, and C1 for postgraduate courses, such as master’s or doctor’s degree programs.
  3. Exemption from the language is if previous education had been fulfilled completely on the same language of instruction.
  4. Certain master’s programs also require knowledge of languages like Arabic, Persian or Turkish.

Country-Specific Requirements

  1. In the case of Indian applicants an APS Certificate needs to be submitted at the time of enrolment.
  2. An APS certificate is also required for Chinese and Vietnamese students for their documents to be validated.

  4. For Mongolian and Georgian applicants, authenticated or apostilled certificates are required.
