The college, named after a 19th-century education reformer, was founded in 1967 and is one of Canada’s largest public colleges and the most diverse. Formed as a local college (in London, Ontario) with 43,000 students (over 13,000 of whom are international and come from over 110 countries), Fanshawe has grown to be one of Canada’s largest colleges, with four additional campuses in Southwestern Ontario. The college offers over 220 programs including diplomas, degrees, certificates, and apprenticeships in a range of both academic and applied programs in arts, business, health, applied arts, social services, information technology, outdoor recreation, and trades.

Advanced Learning Labs: Fanshawe boasts some of the most sophisticated applied learning labs in the world for the health sciences simulation, radio broadcasting, business, information technology, the culinary arts and aviation to name a few. These are useful places for the students to gain practical experience, like the professional workplace environment.

Student Residences: All London students can live in one of the modern on-campus halls of residence with a choice of single or twin rooms. Support Housing is also available; it is for students wishing to reside in accommodation off campus.

Student Life at Fanshawe College

Diverse Student Community: With students currently enrolled from over 13,000 international students, Fanshawe brings international diversity to new heights. Clubs and events connect members of the student body from all corners of the world.

Events and Activities: Concerts, movie nights, festivals and multicultural days are held in the college’s student union. These events grant students an opportunity to decompress, to experience social interaction and bond outside the classroom.

Residence Life: Students who live in on-campus housing attend supervised group activities, movie nights and are paired with a mentor. Residence advisors induce safe, respectful, and fun environment.

Clubs and Leadership: Students might join a club, a sports team or student government. More than 50 clubs are currently active, such as robotics, photography, and academic-related clubs.

Scholarships Offered by Fanshawe College

International Entrance Scholarship: Open to full-time international students in diplomas, degrees, or graduate certificate programs. The scholarship is worth up to 2,000 CAD and is awarded automatically based on your admission average.

Scotiabank International Leadership Scholarship

  1. Value: $1000Application.
  2. This scholarship is available to international students who show leadership and volunteerism on and off Fanshawe campus. You will have to provide a short personal essay and a reference letter, too.

Kim Rowe Memorial Award: This $1,000 award is for candidates attending a health or human services school outside of the U.S. financial need is a requirement. They will be chosen based on need and community service.

EAP Academic Excellence Scholarship: Prize for top grade in EAP at Level 10: Students will be awarded CAD 500 if they achieve the highest EAP grades. The candidate will have an average of 75% or higher and will be a full-time student.

International Returning Student Award: Re-applying with a 3.5 or better GPA and a full-time international student can receive a maximum of $1,000. The recipients must have successfully completed one semester at Fanshawe.

Entry Requirements at Fanshawe College

Undergraduate Programs: International students should be a high school graduate or its equivalent. General requirement is a total over 60–70% for academic subjects. There are some programs requiring scores a little bit higher in English, Math, or Science!

Post-Graduate Certificates: Applicants must have a college or university degree or practical work experience in a related area. Minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or 60 percent.

English Language Requirements: 6.0 (no band under 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 79 Some as low as for undergraduate admission, only IELTS (Academic) scores are accepted. Fanshawe also accepts other tests like PTE, or completion of its English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.

Competitive Program Admissions: Competition also increases for Nursing, Aviation or Paramedics. More rigorous GPA and testing scores may apply.

Conditional Offers: Students who do not reach the language levels can be admitted conditionally and take the EAP program prior to academics.

  1. Moderately Selective Admission: Fanshawe College has an acceptance rate of 60 percent from 100 to be admitted applicants. This level of selectivity reflects the school’s dual mission: a commitment to “access” (to be available to students of all background) and “quality” (to enforce academic standards). It is an attractive gateway for academically qualified students from all parts of the world to the various programs.
  2. Program-Based Selectivity: Even though the acceptance rate is around 60%, some programs are much more difficult to get into. The College has seat availability for all the programs but there are certain programs which may have a lower acceptance rate based on number of seat availability and other entry requirements, programs like Nursing, Aviation, Paramedics are in demand programs.
