Scholarships Offered by University of Bergen

Education Future International Scholarship: This scholarship is available to Indian students aspiring for foreign education, including UIB. For eligibility – students must have academic achievements, a clear study plan. The applicants should self-finance at least half of the education expenditure. It offers financial assistance ranging between $2000 – $10000 to recipient students.

Nils Klem Prize Research Grant (Young Scholars): This grant helps young scholars (under 35) from Nordic countries. Most scholars who have contributed substantially to the disciplines of law, theology, humanities and social sciences at PhD and post-master’s at the university are eligible for the grant. It offers 500,000 Norwegian krone equivalent to $45,000 to recipient scholars. The relaxation age would be extended to 40 years from 2026 for this grant.

CABUTE Master’s Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students pursuing master’s programs in the relevant disciplines at the university. Students from CABUTE (capacity building for teacher education) partnership countries, including India are considered for this scholarship. For eligibility, students must show evidence of academic excellence and commitment for education research. It offers full tuition fee waiver and living expenses.

Similar Government-Funded Scholarships for Norwegian Quota Scheme: In the phased-out scheme, students from developing countries were granted scholarships. However, it has been replaced by Bilateral programs and grants based on research for PhD and postgraduate candidates applying at the university. The scholarships offer tuition fee waivers, living expenses and travel expenditure.

ERASMUS+ Scholarship: The ERASMUS+ scholarship is awarded to international students who are aspiring to study abroad mobility programs at the university. GLODE310 Internship Course: This internship is provided to postgraduate students during the teaching semesters of Autumn and Spring. Successful completion gives 30 ECTS credits for interns. The internship has English as instruction language, generally interns work on-site at the host company.

Entry Requirements at University of Bergen

For Undergraduate Entry: Applicants must have an international academic qualification at par with Norwegian high school diploma. Applicants from a few countries may require an additional year of university education, other than high school study. They must also demonstrate the prescribed English language proficiency.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree of four years’ study or its equivalent. GPA of at least Norwegian grade C or higher is mandatory. Demonstration of prescribed English language proficiency.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

  1. Applicants must demonstrate the prescribed English language proficiency via following tests – TOEFL – minimum overall score of 90 or IELTS – an overall score of 6.5 or PTE Academic – at least an overall score of 62 or Cambridge English – C1 advanced or C2 proficiency, minimum grades A, B, or C.
  2. Applicants who come from English speaking countries may get an exemption and applicants who had studied undergraduate program in English medium in specified countries may also get an exemption from above mentioned tests.

Short-Term & Exchange Programs

  1. UIB offers around 400 programs entirely taught in the English Inbound international students arriving at the university for short-term exchanges or exchange programs must show evidence of English language proficiency. They need at least B2 level on CEFR scale, which is equivalent to TOEFL – 60 or IELTS – 5.0.
  2. Courses in English language and literature need minimum C1 level of English language proficiency.
