The Lindeman Hall has a seating capacity of 365 audience with amphitheater and a stage that can accommodate a whole choir or band. While the Sandvold Hall is equipped with large organ, ideal for concerts and musical rehearsals.

Scholarships Offered by Norwegian Academy of Music

NMH Internal Scholarship for Music Students: The academy provides various scholarships to students, helping them to overcome financial hardships. These scholarships are available for both bachelor’s and master’s students, selection is entirely based on academic excellence and artistic brilliance. The amount differs as per funds availability, few scholarships are competitive and some need separate application for selection.

Ingar Doubloug Foundation Grant: This grant is applicable to Norwegian composers and performing musicians at the academy. However, students who are engaged in original compositions or performing projects are preferred. The amount differs as per circumstances.

Skovly Scholarship: This scholarship is aimed to support students of compositions and music theory at the academy. However, preference is given to students who use scholarship funds for study trips, masterclasses or any other similar activity. This scholarship offers 15,000 Norwegian Krone to recipient students.

Lawyer Thorvald Meyer & Wife Elsa Margrethe Meyer Music Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to students who show evidence of exceptional musical talent with academic merit. The amount of scholarship differs according to need of student and academic merit. The funding of this scholarship can be utilized for research activities, tuition fee or artistic development.

Summer Academy Scholarships: The scholarship is available automatically to students who are enrolling for Voksenåsen summer academy. It provides partial coverage of summer course fee, the scholarship amount is adjusted in the course fee of recipient students.

Ingrid, Synnove & Elias Fegersten Foundation for Norwegian Composers & Performing Musicians: This foundation based financial assistance is awarded to students at the academy with specialization in compositions and music performance. The amount of this financial assistance differs, recipient students can buy musical instruments, study material or can be used for artistic development.

External Scholarships & Grants: In addition to aforementioned scholarships and funding, students can seek various external funding opportunities such as, European Music Scholarships for study abroad, Norwegian Government Scholarships for overseas students and institution based funding and private sponsors for different disciplines.

Procedure to Apply for Scholarships: Students seeking different scholarships must check the eligibility criteria, submission of application forms is also mandatory for few scholarships. Entry Requirements at Norwegian Academy of Music

For Undergraduate Entry

  1. For academic requirements, applicants must have a secondary school diploma at par with Norwegian university entrance qualification.
  2. Applicants must also satisfy music theory and aural skills test compulsorily. As a part of admission requirements, few performance-oriented programs like, conducting, compositions, music education and performance studies need an audition mandatorily.

Language Proficiency Requirements: Majority of undergraduate programs are exclusively taught in Norwegian language, therefore applicants must demonstrate thorough proficiency via Bergens test or similar language tests.

Procedure to Apply: Applicants must register and submit all relevant documents on Søknadsweb. All required documents must be uploaded before the deadline. As far as auditions are concerned, there could be in-person, video submission or music theory tests.

Deadlines: The official deadline for application submission is 15th December every year.

For Postgraduate Entry

  1. For academic requirements, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in music or related field. A minimum 80 ECTS credits is mandatory in music or similar field.
  2. For performance-oriented and composition and research based programs, auditions and portfolio submission is mandatory.

Language Proficiency Requirements: Few international postgraduate programs are taught in English language, therefore sufficient proficiency can be demonstrated via, IELTS – minimum overall score of 5.0 or equivalent scores in TOEFL iBT or similar proficiency tests. For programs taught in Norwegian language, applicants must furnish proficiency via passing Bergenstest or similar tests.

Deadlines: The official deadline for application submission is 15th December every year. For auditions and interviews – 17th – 21st February every year for approved applicants. The list of admitted applicants is released by 26th February every year.

Programs Which Requires Auditions: Master’s of Music in Conducting, Master of Music Performance (Solo, Jazz, Chamber, Folk Music & Opera), European Chamber of Music Master (ECMAster) and Master of Music in Composition (Instrumental, Jazz & Film Music).

For Doctoral Programs Entry

  1. Typically, applicants need a postgraduate degree in relevant subjects of music, musicology and related field. They must also submit a research proposal with details of research area.
  2. A portfolio and relevant work experience is mandatory for PhD in Artistic Research.

Language Proficiency Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate prescribed English language proficiency via TOEFL iBT, IELTS or any other similar tests for programs taught in English language.

Additional Requirements for International Students: All Non-EU/EEA applicants must apply for student visa and residence permit as soon as they receive the admission offer. The international office at the academy provides complete assistance to international students for obtaining visa and residence permit.
